Instructions for Windows 95 PPP Configuration
Step 1: Verify that Dial-up Networking is Installed.

Press the Start Button on the Task Bar.

Select Settings from the list and then select Control
Panel.

From Control Panel double click on the Add/Remove Programs

The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box will appear with three
tabs running along the top. They are Install/Uninstall, Windows Setup,
and Startup Disk.

Select the tab labeled Windows Setup.

Click on the Communications option to highlight it and press the Details
button found towards the bottom of the dialog box.

The Communications dialog box will appear as shown below, make sure
that the Dial-up Networking option is checked off.

If the Dial-up Networking option was already checked off then you do
not need to install it again, you may proceed to step 2. If the option
was not selected then you will need to install it.

Select the Dial-Up Networking option and click OK.

Windows 95 will now attempt to install the needed drivers and files
for Dial-Up Networking to work, have your Windows 95 CD ROM handy since
it will need to copy files in order to complete the installation. After
it is installed you may proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Verify that the Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP Protocol
are Installed

Press the Start button, select Settings, then Control Panel.
Double click on the Network Icon.

The Network dialog box will appear. Make sure the Configuration tab
is selected.

If both of these options are present then you may proceed to Step 3:
Otherwise you must add them.

Press the Add… button, The Select A Network Component dialog
box will appear. Double click on the Adapter option. Then from the Manufactures
list scroll down until you see Microsoft, select it, from the Network Adapters
list select Dial-Up Adapter and click OK.

To add the TCP/IP Protocol press Add… then double click the Protocol
option. From the Manufactures list scroll down until you see Microsoft,
select it, then select the TCP/IP option and click OK.

Now the Network dialog box should display both of these options.

In the Network dialog box select the Dial-Up Adapter icon and then click
on the Properties… button, select the Wins Configuration tab in
the dialog box that appears and make sure that the Disable Wins Resolution
option is checked. Select OK.

If this is a home computer without a network card remove all other listings
in the configuration tab execpt Dial-Up Adapter & TCP/IP. Select OK
when done.

After all of these entries are made Windows 95 will ask you to reboot,
click Yes to reboot so that the changes can take effect.
Step 3: Set up the Connection Icon

From the Windows 95 Desktop double click on the My Computer Icon, from
the window that appears double click on the Dial-Up Networking Icon. From
the window that appears after this double click on the Make New Connection
Icon. This will initiate the Make New Connection Wizard.

Enter a name for the icon you're about to create, the name you make
does not affect the connection, so you can enter "IMS" as a name for example.

In the Select a modem area the modem that is configured for your
computer should appear.

Now you must configure your modem options, so click on the Configure…
button. Another dialog box will appear.

In the General tab set the Maximum Speed option to 57600 if your modem
is a 14,4K modem, and 115200 for a 28.8K modem. Do Not select the option
labeled "Connect Only at this speed." This way your modem can adjust to
the various speeds as needed.

Don't worry about the Connection tab, the selected defaults should be
fine.

Select the Options tab, put a checkmark in the box that says "bring
up terminal window after dialing"

Click the OK button.

Now click on the Next> button to continue with the Wizard.

Now you must enter the access number 209 742-5333, you may want to enter
*70.. before the area code if you have call waiting on your line. Note:
the *70.. disables the call waiting option on your phone line, while
this call lasts.

Click on the Next> button to go on with the Wizard.

Now you can click on the Finish button to complete the process and have
your icon created.
Step 4: Setting the Dial-Up Properties

From the Windows 95 Desktop double click on the My Computer Icon, from
the window that appears double click on the Dial-Up Networking Icon. From
the window that appears after this click on your newly created connection
icon and then once it is selected click with the right mouse button. From
the short cut menu that appears select Properties. A dialog box will appear,
from this dialog box click on the Server Type… button.

In the Type of Dial-Up Server section click on the drop down
list box and select the PPP Connection option.

Make sure that the Log on to network option is not checked in
the Advanced options: area.

Make sure that the TCP/IP option is checked in the Allowed network protocols:

Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.

Make sure that the Server assigned IP address automatically option is
selected.

Make sure that the Specify name server addresses option is selected.
-
Fill in the primary DNS "205.139.78.193" there is no alternet.
-
Click the OK button.

Step 5: Configure Dial-Up Networking to Automatically Redial
a Busy Number

From the Dial-Up Networking folder select the Connections menu item
and then Settings option.

From the dialog box that appears you can choose the number of times
you would like your dial up sessions to attempt connection.
Step 6: Dialing in and Getting Connected

Double click the connection icon that you made from the Dial-Up Networking
window. You will get the Connect To dialog box.

Click on the Connect button and your modem should start dialing.

A black terminal screen will open in the upper left hand corner of your
screen this is where you "login"
-
It will ask you for your login in name, type in your login, then press
enter on your keyboard.

It will then ask for your password, type in your password, then press
enter on your keyboard.

In 1-2 seconds you will see some funny characters at that point press
the F7 on you keyboard.

You will see dialog box saying "Verifing user".

A dialog box will appear saying Connected to IMS.

You can now double click on your browser icon and start browsing.
